The last few months have taught me a lot about myself.
For the first time in a while, I feel like I’ve finally been able to slow down and actually enjoy life. Not because everything suddenly became perfect, but because I’ve started making more time for the things I genuinely enjoy. I’ve been appreciating the little moments, trying new things, and most importantly, stepping outside of my comfort zone.
And surprisingly, I’ve learned that stepping outside of your comfort zone doesn’t always have to feel scary. Sometimes it can feel freeing.
Recently, I went to my first Mom Club, and I absolutely loved it. Normally, I’m not the biggest talker, especially around new people, so this was definitely something different for me. But there I was, sitting with other moms, drinking coffee, laughing, talking about our kids, life, and everything in between.
And I thought to myself, look at me doing something new and actually enjoying it.
It’s such a simple thing, but it meant more to me than I realized. It reminded me that sometimes we get so comfortable with the version of ourselves we’ve always known that we don’t give the person we’re becoming a chance to experience something different.
At the same time, I’ve found myself in places and situations that once felt so familiar to me, yet they don’t feel the same anymore.
At first, I couldn’t quite understand why.
The place may be the same. The people may even be the same. But I’m not the same person I was when those things felt familiar to me.
Maybe that’s what outgrowing a version of yourself feels like.
It doesn’t mean that part of your life was bad. It doesn’t mean you have to regret it or erase it. Sometimes you’ve simply learned everything you were supposed to learn there.
I’m learning that it’s okay to appreciate who I used to be while accepting that I don’t have to stay connected to everything that belonged to that version of me.
Lately, I’m enjoying slower moments. I’m journaling more. I’m trying new things. I’m laughing more. I’m meeting new people. I’m allowing myself to experience life without always worrying about what’s next.
And I’m realizing something:
Maybe growth isn’t always about adding more. Sometimes growth is realizing what no longer fits while giving yourself permission to discover what does.
As I sit here listening to the rain today, I’m grateful for this season. I’m grateful for the slower days. I’m grateful for the courage to step outside of what’s comfortable. And I’m grateful that I’m becoming more open to experiences I might’ve once talked myself out of.
Some things will always feel familiar.
But familiar doesn’t always mean it’s where you’re meant to stay.
Sometimes the unfamiliar is exactly where the next version of you is waiting.
