Making Time for Me

How do you make time for self-care?

There was a time when I didn’t prioritize self-care. I put myself last and skipped the things I wanted to do because I felt like everything else needed my attention first. Somewhere along the way, I got used to leaving myself off my own list.

I had to learn that it’s okay to make time for me. How can I keep pouring into everyone else if I’m never pouring into myself?

So I started adding me time to my routine. I get my nails done and keep up with my hair. I go to the gym because I love it, not because I’m trying to prove anything, but because working out makes me feel good about myself. I book my facials. I go shopping and let myself buy something I want, when there was a time I would’ve talked myself out of it. I spend time with my girls, laugh, and enjoy being out of the house.

I’ve also learned that self-care isn’t only about appointments or buying things. It’s paying attention to how I feel. It’s giving myself permission to rest. It’s checking in with the people who check in on me and making room for relationships that feel good to be in.

At first, choosing myself felt selfish. Now I see it as something I needed to do. I still care for the people I love, but I matter too. And these days, I make sure there’s room for me in my own life. 🤍
